Sauvignon Blanc 2021

Newly released in November 2021 our Johanneshof Sauvignon Blanc is a quiet achiever, featuring in 'The Shout" Magazine's Sauvignon Blanc tasting  with this stunning rating of 94 points by Master Sommelier Cameron Douglas:

"Fragrant and mineral, floral and distinctive, Aromas and flavours of fresh gooseberry, nettles and white spices. A silk texture as the wine touches the palate is immediately contrasted by a core of fruits and gently salivating acid line. A lees quality adds texture and complexity. Delicious wine ready to drink from 2022 through 2025+" Cameron Douglas MS

This varietally expressive, zingy wine is easily matched with seafood, fish, salsa and salads. Its acidity will keep it fresh for a good number of years, there's no rush.

Chardonnay 2018

Light straw in colour the Johanneshof Chardonnay intrigues with its bouquet of vanilla with some leesy accents and a touch of oak.
This medium bodied wine is not a bold buttery style, it is rather a fruity, elegant wine that shines with its delicate nutty flavours & a hint of smokeyness. Hand harvested like all Johanneshof wines it is silky textured and driven by its beautiful fruit flavours, followed by a very subtle, soft oak influence that leaves a lasting impression. Enjoy with fish and seafood or pasta dishes.
It will bottle age beautifully until 2026

This is a comeback of one of our first varieties, which we stopped producing in favour of our sparkling Chardonnay - the Johanneshof Cellars Blanc de Blancs. After nearly 20 years our still Chardonnay is now back and showing great following since its release in October 2019.

Pinot Noir Ros
é 2020
Maybern Single Vineyard

Just released in December 2021, the Johanneshof Pinot Noir Rosé Maybern greets you in bottle and glass with its light garnet colour, followed by a bouquet of forest berries, red melon, rhubarb and a touch of almond.

Dry in style the palate carries on in the theme of a compote of berries - raspberries, strawberries and cherries all intermingle - with a very soft acidity. A core of nutty and earthy tones shows the terroir of the Maybern vineyard finishing long and smooth.

This single vineyard Pinot Noir Rosé is made from our steep home block 'Maybern" Vineyard behind our winery. Dry-farmed and narrow planted, growing here is a labour of love, with most work carried out by hand. The notably soft acidity is achieved by carefully monitoring  the ripening in the vineyard and choosing the picking time when all components are in balance. Hand harvested like all Johanneshof wines, it is an elegant, yet gutsy wine with a lengthy finish.

Johanneshof Cellars Marlborough   Noble Late Harvest Riesling 2018
Picture

This richly botrytised style is Warwick and Edel's homage
to her home of Rheingau in Germany and its great noble wines called 'Trockenbeerenauslese'

Johanneshof Noble Late Harvest Riesling 2018 seduces with its naturally highly concentrated bouquet packed with honey and sundried apricot flavours. This is reflected on the palate with decadent flavours of ripe citrus fruit, honeycomb and apricot, entwined with subtle botrytis which gently unfolds with layers of aromatics.
With an oily and rich mouthfeel this luscious dessert wine is sweet but balanced with a good acid spine and excellent harmony and richness. Serve with crème brûlée, apple pie or apricot crumble.    375 ml

Pinot Gris  Sorry -SOLD

A gorgeous hint of rose colour reflects the varieties beautiful pink tint of its skin. The lifted bouquet shows golden stonefruit characters, poached pear, rockmelon and spice aromas, followed by a concentrated palate that is subtle and lingering.

The wine seduces with excellent fruit power and depths, while balanced and well structured with an impressively long smooth finish.
At its best : now to 2023

"Pink-orange tinted wine with stewed apple, spice, clove, ripe pear and honeysuckle flavours. Fine, peppery tannins suggest that the wine has had plenty of skin contact to extract flavour. A gutsy pinot gris with character. Drink 2021–2023"

Johanneshof Cellars  Pinot Noir 2019 Maybern Single Vineyard Reserve

Our Maybern Vineyard is a tribute Warwick's parents May and Bernard who allowed Warwick to establish a vineyard on their land when if was just a teenager. Located behind our cellar door in Koromiko, our home block vineyard became Marlborough's first steep hillside vineyard when planted in 1977. On this north west facing steep slope mechanical intervention is impossible, so all work is done by hand, except for the mowing which is usually done by our sheep!

Made from hand harvested grapes, our Pinot Noir Maybern is a partial wild ferment where the wine is allowed to ferment spontaneously with indigenous yeasts, unique to our Koromiko vineyard and winery. Nurtured with minimal intervention an additions it was aged in French oak barrels for 12 months and bottled with a light filtration only in February 2021.

Vibrant ruby red, the Johanneshof Pinot Noir Maybern 2019 seduces with its fragrance and flavours of cherries and red berries with a touch of plum and leather. Earthy undertones with a fine tannins and medium acidity lead to a nuanced finish. The soft tannins promise a good potential to age, while its immediate drinkability might not allow for this however. Perfect with hearty dishes complementing mushrooms, meat and game.
At its best : Now to 2025
