This rare New Zealand Grape Brandy has been maturing deep in Johanneshof's underground cellar for over 30 years. Solely made from 100 % hand-harvested grapes grown in Marlborough, double distilled and aged in Limousine barrels this premium Marlborough brandy is blended like the best cognacs using the Solera method guaranteeing you the finest quality of brandies. Pure grapes, fermented with natural yeast and double-distilled !

“Made in Marlborough only in exceptional years, this is a glorious looking brandy, with a bright mahogany colour. Lifted fruit on the nose, with rum and raisin notes and very assertive on the palate, with sweet characters of prune and plum with stewed fruit undertones. The finish is long and persistent.”

This fortified red wine is Johanneshof's interpretation of a Ruby Port. Many visits to Portugal have inspired our winemakers Edel and Warwick to pay homage to the great spirit of Oporto, the much loved 'Port'.


Johanneshof's Pheasant Plucker's Ruby is made from 100% hand harvested Marlborough Pinot Noir grapes and fortified to 19% ABV. with Johanneshof's fine aged Brandy, our Johanneshof Edelbrand.

Small parcels are bottled, labelled and sealed with sealing wax, all by hand for your enjoyment. Like all our products, this is a "slow-beverage" for you to savour in good time and company.


The name Pheasant Plucker is just a bit of humour, a tongue twister used to entertain while enjoying the camaraderie of friends. In short - we have produced this Port style wine for fun to celebrate companionship.
 
For those who may not have heard it, the rhyme goes:
“I’m not the pheasant plucker,
I’m the pheasant plucker’s son.
I’m only plucking pheasants
‘till the pheasant plucker comes.”

Johanneshof Cellars GRAPPA
Coming back in January 2026


Johanneshof  Cellars GRAPPA follows the great European traditions of Germany, Italy and France, and is made from fermented Gewürztraminer grape skins from a single vintage -selected from our top vineyards in Marlborough.

Eau de Vie
After an eight week ferment in small 500 litre fermenters the Gewürztraminer skins are then transferred whole to the copper still where they are distilled twice in order to achieve a pure and concentrated Eau de Vie.
 
This double distillation helps to unmask the spicy rose petal and Turkish delight characters of  the Gewürztraminer grape.
 
The resultant spirit is then placed into a small stainless steel tank and left to marry together for some time prior to being bottled unfiltered into 500ml bottles.
Being aged in tanks rather than barrels Eau de Vie D' Grappa retains its clear colour that is so typical for this traditional spirit.


Enjoy the Johanneshof Cellars GRAPPA ice cold and neat after a mourish meal or sip it together with your favourite coffee.
