Méthode Traditionnelle
EMMI Extra Brut

EMMI Méthode Traditionnelle Brut is a cuvee  of 75 % Pinot Noir and 25 % Chardonnay made from hand harvested Marlborough Grapes. Pinot Noir grapes are derived from our Maybern vineyard behind our cellar door, these vines are a champagne clone of Pinot Noir on a 30 degree Northwest facing slope. Marlborough's first steep hillside vineyard was planted first by Warwick in 1977. Vines are narrow planted in the European two cane system and dry farmed (non irrigated).

Left on its lees for over ten years, EMMI is hand riddled on Champagne racks from Epernay, and desgorged in small batches of a few hundred bottles. with latest desgorgement (removal of the yeast) in December 2023.
We are proud to carry out all processes   onsite at Johanneshof winery.

Fine persistent effervescence eludes to the high quality of this handmade Méthode Traditionnelle wine. The extended time on lees has resulted in a complex flavour profile and layered texture. Fragrant and intriguing, the palate evolves from Citrus notes into deeper flavours of almond, brioche and truffle. Smooth and velvety, the finish is lengthy and silky.

“Toasty, bready, rich and ready core with aromas of brioche and nut, roasted stone fruits, citrus peel and baked apple. A powerful mousse engages the palate first with flavours of oat and wholewheat bread, baked apple then lemon. Dry, lengthy, crisp and delicious. Best drinking from today and through 2026+”.

NEW DAWN Rosé Brut

100% Marlborough Pinot Noir made from hand harvested Marlborough Grapes. Derived from our Maybern vineyard behind our cellar door, these vines are planted in a champagne clone of Pinot Noir on a 30 degree Northwest facing slope. Marlborough's first steep hillside vineyard was planted first by Warwick in 1977, two years before the release of Marlborough's first Sauvignon Blanc. Vines are narrow planted in the European two cane system and dry farmed (non irrigated).- aged in seasoned French barrels, and hand turned and disgorged on site. 10 years on lees.

NEW DAWN features the classic salmon colour of a traditional Méthode Traditionnelle Rosé . The bouquet of strawberry is attractively biscuity. Bouquet with aromas of strawberry and peach, a little plum and red apple. The autolysis is  bold, thread through the nose with a brioche and nutty hint. Dry, full-bodied and distinctive on the palate with red apple with berry . Fine mousse and satin texture. Balanced with lengthy and classy finish. A jovial wine ideal for celebrations. Drink now and through 2030.”

NEW RELEASE November 2023

"Newly released, this is a sophisticated textural rosé made from 100% Pinot Noir. Johanneshof Cellars – whose underground cellars are located on the road to the Picton ferry – is a tiny, very hands-on producer passionate about sparkling wines. Toasty rather than bready autolysis, red apple, peach and strawberry yoghurt, this is honeyed and complex with a weighty, textural palate that has a pleasing roundedness. Good balance and a clean dry finish, this is one to savour. 10 years on lees.
Drinking Window: 2023 – 2033"

Méthode Traditionnelle
BLANC DE BLANCS Brut

Made solely from hand harvested grapes in the traditional Champagne method like all Johanneshof sparkling wines, the Johanneshof Cellars BLANC DE BLANCS Méthode Traditionnelle is made from 100 percent Chardonnay.

After the secondary fermentation in the bottle, the wine was left on its lees for  nine years and disgorged in small parcels.

The delicate floral nose leads to an elegant palate of citrus and stonefruit characters. The long lees contact has generated nutty and toasty flavours with very fine beads, a sign of the highest quality. The texture is smooth and creamy with a lasting dry finish.

“Gloriously complex and engaging, the bouquet shows ripe apple, stone fruit, lemon peel and yeasty characters. The palate is equally gratifying with creamy mouthfeel and terrific mid palate weight, brilliantly structured by perfectly pitched acidity. Multi-layered, splendidly composed and impressively long."
