We were so pleased to have the pleasure of the company of Ilona from Palate Exposure recently. She wrote a great article and review about our winery and cellar door when she came to chat to Warwick as part of her "Winemakers Wednesdays" series.

Spiegelau International Awards

17/8/2013

When entering five wines in this popular show Johanneshof’s owners Warwick and Edel didn’t dream of the success that awaited them. While four Johanneshof wines and sparkling wine received medals in the Spiegelau International Wine Competition in July 2013, two achieved the top award in their category. Both Johanneshof Cellars Marlborough Pinot Gris 2012 and the Johanneshof Cellars Gewurztraminer 2012 took out the Trophy for “Champion Wine” in their respective classes. At the award night Co-owner and winemaker Edel Everling was absolutely stunned when receiving those two category  Trophies, only to be exceeded when Johanneshof was honoured with a third Trophy, jointly awarded for “Champion Winery of the Show”.

This was the climax of a year that presented Johanneshof Cellars with numerous medals and six Trophies – an outstanding result for this artisan winery.

Johanneshof Cellars – A Little Piece of Germany in Marlborough-

"For those who have travelled the wine trail in Germany, Johanneshof Cellars will be a welcome reminder of their experiences. Located at Koromiko, approximately two-thirds of the way from Blenheim to Picton, Johanneshof is a little piece of Germany in Marlborough. It should come as no surprise that Edel Everling and Warwick Foley who established the business, have German winemaking backgrounds. Edel is a fifth generation winemaker who hails from Rudesheim, in the heart of the famous Rheingau vignoble. Warwick, a Kiwi, first worked at the Te Kauwhata viticultural research station before heading overseas, and both studied at viticulture and winemaking at Geisenheim university, before eventually coming to New Zealand to set up their own vineyard and winery in 1991."
