The 'New Zealand Spirit Awards 2024' have just judged our Johanneshof Grape Brandy EDELBRAND  'Best New Zealand Grape Brandy' and third place in the Brandy & Cognac category.

We have been awarded Bronze in this competition before and are thrilled to be recognized for our dedication to New Zealand spirits. For 34 years we’ve been crafting our own grape brandy and other spirits.

Johanneshof ‚EDELBRAND‘ is the finest grape brandy blended in the ‚Solera‘ method, combing our oldest vintages going back more than 30 years. Crafted from fermented grapes, double distilled and aged for three decades to develop from the purest essence to the smoothest, most natural spirit.

This year the NZ Spirits Awards 2024 had 480 entries into the blind tasting and award categories, with 317 from New Zealand and 163 from overseas. A team of 22 judges blind tasted and assessed throughout 16 categories.

Judges commented "The standard of entries this year was exceptionally high... The Spirits awards offer a special opportunity to highlight the quality of offerings available (in NZ), celebrating both the ingenuity and care of craft behind the spirits... Domestic products get the chance to be recognised against some of world’s best."

We must admit we never released it so early in the year, but its growing reputation as one of the iconic wines of New Zealand means we sell out faster every year. That means you have to be quick so you don't miss out. Like previous years the 2020 vintage received Trophies and  multiple 5 star ratings and we hope this newbie on the block will get your approval too.

So head to our webshop for more of our liquid gold. And as we know you are following the rules and are staying at home, we will deliver straight to your door, contactless and safe and free of charge for orders of six bottles or more within NZ's two main islands.

JOHANNESHOF CELLARS GEWÜRZTRAMINER 2019 
Marlborough, South Island, New Zealand (D) - $31 NZD

Screw cap. This hand-harvested Gewürztraminer has a gorgeous, intense, focused, and very pure nose of lychee, rose floral, lemon citrus, and musky spice aromas. The concentrated, full-ish palate is off-dry with lovely lychee, floral and spice replays with touches of marzipan on the mid-palate. Bracing acids are juicy and keep things nicely balanced. More rose and lychee notes complete the dry finish, with excellent length. Top NZ Gewürztraminer!

We created our pink sparkling wine New Dawn from 100 % Pinot Noir to support our local Cancer Society. We donate $10 per bottle to honour their tremendous work assisting people affected by cancer in Marlborough. Cancer Societies around New Zealand receive no Government funding and therefore rely solely on the support of all of us.

'Johanneshof Cellars New Dawn' is named after the pale pink rose growing outside our cellar door. New Dawn signifies the new life cancer survivors have been given as they go into survivorship, like a New Dawn.

Johanneshof Cellars Marlborough New Dawn Methode Traditionnelle 2010 is only available from our cellar door and by mail order. Thank you for your support.
